Let the holiday shopping begin. Banks Elementary is proud to host the BELIEVE catalog sale, October 22-Nov.5, 2012. Look for the full color catalog to come home on Monday, Oct. 22 with your child(ren). It has kitchen gadgets, food products and all sorts of nifty items to help you start checking off your holiday list! 40% of sales goes to supporting Banks Elem. School.

Ask your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers to help our school to be its best. All our $$$ ads up to better opportunities for our children. The PTO will use the funds to support field trips and busing, classroom activities and supplies. I urge you to give your support with a purchase, large or small. It all adds up to being the best we can be!

Orders are due by Nov. 5th.

Entertainment Books 2013

On sale now: 2013 Entertainment Books.

Support BES and buy your Entertainment Books. The Portland Area Edition is $30. Each student has an example book for review. Editions for other areas are $35 - $45 (find their pricing here) so be sure to ask your out-of-town family and friends. The sale runs now through September 26, 2012. Students can give their example book to the last person they sell to, additional books will be delivered in early October. The coupons are awesome deals, and this book easily pays for it self with just a few uses over the year. Buy your copy today!

Pizza Schmizza Night

Mark your calendar for Banks Elementary's Pizza Schmizza Night 2012.
Join BES family and friends for a delicious fundraiser dinner on Tuesday, October 9th from 4:30-7:30pm.  BES receives 15% of your purchase from the Forest Grove Pizza Schmizza on 10/9 only (from 4:30-7:30pm).  Sorry no coupons on this event, but you can use SCRIP certificates to give an even greater donation to our school.  Buy your SCRIP cards now and join us for Pizza Schmizza night.

Smartphone Calendar Users

The PTO has created a digital calendar which includes school closures and special events.  We will be updating it with any changes throughout the year. If you add this calendar to your computer or smartphone/device you will automatically have access to the BES calendar and its updates.  You may access this calendar here.  Or add it to your exisiting calendar by adding BanksElementary@gmail.com to your Google calendar.  If you have Gmail go to your online account and type BanksElementaryPTO@gmail.com under "Other Calendars."

Please email Amy Updike (BanksElementaryPTO@gmail.com) if you have another provider or need help making this work.  This calendar is so handy - you'll love it!!

September Events

Hello wonderful BES parents!  We hope your 1st week of school was successful and fun. We are excited and ready to jump into 2012-13!  We have three big events coming up in September...

Meet & Greet with our NEW principal *Mrs. Sewell*
Wednesday Sept 12 - 6:30-8:00pm - BES Library
Come meet Mrs. Sewell and hear all about her and her plans for BES. Then, we'll have our 1st PTO meeting of the year! Please stay to help us make decisions on how to help the school.  We need YOU to join our great team of volunteers this year!   Refreshments and childcare provided.
***Meetings are every 2nd Wed of the month from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Library.***

Back to School BBQ & Open House
Thursday Sept 13 - 5:15-7:00pm
Dinner from 5:15-6:15.  Visit with your children's teachers from 6:00-7:00.   Be sure to play our Scavenger Hunt Game & turn in your email card by 6pm for a chance to win a $20 gift card!

We need volunteers!!
2 Adults or High School Students for Food Prep
3:00-5:00pm
Help set out the food, cut watermelons
4 Adults for Cashiering
5:00-6:00pm
Sell food tickets at the cashier table
2 Adults to Cook
4:30-6:30
Cook the hotdogs on Jim's big grills (clean the grill when done)

Kid's Fun Run for the Arts
Thursday Sept 27 - 8:30-11:30 AM
 This is an annual run-a-thon where the kids get pledges for every lap they run around the HS track. The money goes straight to the school for art supplies, used by the whole school throughout the year. Plus, it is a really healthy & fun activity for the kids! Look for more info coming home next week.

We need volunteers!!
We need 10+ parents (each shift) to help punch the cards as kids run laps, distribute treats & cheer the kids on.

The shifts will probably be:
Grades 1-2 9:30 to 10:15AM.
Grades 3-4 10:30 to 11:15AM.
Grades 5-6 11:30 to 12:15 PM
Kinder 12:30-1:00 (in the gym)


Young children are welcome to come. We'd love to have you for just an hour, or all morning if you wish. More info to come.

Please Note...
NEXT Monday, Sept 10th is an update on the Jr. High Building @7pm in Jr High Cafeteria
There will be new information about bringing the 6th graders into the building and it becoming a Middle School. This will affect our current 4TH GRADERS.
Exciting progress is happening, come hear all about it!

Picture Day is Sept 19th - watch for order forms coming home today.

New PTO Officers

We are so excited to welcome Jana Jordan as our new Treasurer and Crystal Herinckx as the Teacher & Staff Appreciation Coordinator (she also manages the Scrip Program).  A BIG thanks to these two ladies for stepping up to help out!!

Brave Run Power

Thanks to a VERY successful Brave Run Event the PTO was able to donate $7,559.73 to purchase new media carts and printers for each classroom.
Thank you Brave Run Committee and Participants!!!!

Classroom Money

This morning the PTO presented $2300 in "Classroom Money" to the teachers.  Each regular classroom received $100 and specialist classrooms received $50.  We hope this helps to offset classroom expenses.
Thanks to everyone for helping the PTO raise money allowing this to be possible.

Mon. Sept. 10:  Community Forum

7:00pm @ Banks Junior High Cafeteria
Meeting will include information on Bond Project and Concept Plans for the Middle School

Wed. Sept. 12:  Come meet Mrs. Sewell, our new principal

6:30pm @ Banks Elementary Library
We will get to know Mrs. Sewell and discuss plans for the 2012-2013 school year.

Thur. Sept. 13:  Back to School Night/BBQ

5:15 - 6:15pm BBQ (on the blacktop behind Banks Elementary)
     $4 for a meal (includes: 1 hot dog, salad, watermelon, chips, cookie, and a water or soda)
     $1 for an additional hot dog
6:00 - 7:00pm Teachers will be available in their individual classrooms
Don't forget to enter the raffle to win a $25 Fred Meyer gift card!!
